Ketswiri Update
After nearly a month of no sightings, Ketswiri, our younger
female Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus),
was spotted in the North Western corner of the reserve. However, it seems one of her two remaining
cubs did not make it through this period and is presumed to have been killed. At just over 6 months old, her only surviving
cub remains by her side and looks to be in very good condition.
Ketswiri’s VHF collar’s battery died in June, 2011. She is
due to have it removed and replaced, but that can only happen when the cub
reaches an age where it can be separated from its mother for a few days. Until then, any sightings come as a pleasant
surprise. We will continue to update the
blog with any news of Ketswiri and her cub, as and when she is sighted.
