Update on the Venetia Wild dog den

The Venetia Pack is keeping us in suspense. We reported on June 24th that Stellar and her pack seemed to have denned high in the Hilda Koppies on Venetia Limpopo nature Reserve. This endangered predator is hanging on by a thread in Southern Africa and the pack on Venetia is no different- there are just three adults and one sub-adult from last year's litter left in the pack to rear this year's litter, that is if it is in existence! The GVI and EWT (Endangered Wildlife Trust) researchers on the reserve report that there has still been no visual of any pups but that the pack are still constantly returning to the rocky outcrop that they apparently denned in back in June. The position of the den has been triangulated remotely on a number of occasions and a small researcher team recently walked into the koppies while the pack was out hunting to try to find the den site and establish the number and condition of any pups, but without success. However, for as long as the pack keeps returning to the same site, we live in hope, and all being well over the coming month or two, the alpha pair will eventually lead the pups away from the den with the adults to show them the reserve- and hopefully to the research teams. Watch this space...
