A Bush Picnic
For a change, we packed a picnic and hiked to Karongwe Dam for lunch. It was a perfect day for a picnic. Even though it was the middle of winter there was not a cloud in the sky and it was quite warm.
Like soldiers the group marched along the river road, stopping to examine tracks and faeces on the way. We were noisy for most of the walk so the chances of seeing any wildlife were pretty slim.
After 34 minutes we reached the Karongwe dam and set up lunch on the dam wall where we chilled on the rocks in the shade. Some of the volunteers where tempted to jump in the dam to cool off, but as it was stagnant water and had been for quite some time, GVI did not recommend.
After lunch, we took a relaxed walked back to camp in the hot African sun to help digest our sandwiches. What a nice way to spend a couple of hours in the African bush.
