Karongwe Annual Report 2012

Each year, GVI Karongwe produces 5 formal reports for Karongwe Private Game Reserve's landowners. The Annual General Meeting is held each November and GVI is tasked with producing an annual report that analyses all the previous year's data and any other work conducted between October 1st and September 30th. This year was no different and our science officer, Beth Silvester produced yet another great report that received numerous plaudits from landowners and her GVI colleagues. Aptly assisted by her protege, Jamie Sangster, here is the actual report for you to read:

GVI Karongwe Annual Report 2011-2012

This report serves as a good summary of the work that GVI staff and volunteers conduct. It highlights the monitoring efforts of our focus animals as well as our external research partners, reserve and community work.

This year's report was particularly special for its leopard (Panthera pardus) section, as a detailed analysis of uncollared leopards' movements and territories was possible due to diligent identification protocols implemented earlier this year.

Not included in this blog post is the second part of the report which includes all the ID kits. GVI Karongwe has been able to update virtually all of the ID kits for Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Cheetah, Leopard and Hyaena  - 86 individuals in total.

We owe a huge thank you to Beth Silvester and Jamie Sangster for producing and presenting the report as well as all the other staff and volunteers that collected the year's data and put in the hours of reserve and community work.
