Sad News

Ketswiri our collared female cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) has lost her cubs.

After giving birth to 3 cubs, Ketswiri then spent only 4 days with them before leaving the area for 8 days. On the 8th day we walked in to find the remains of one cub with puncture wounds in the skull.

Cheetahs often lose their cubs to other predators such as lions (Panthera leo) and spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta) especially in an area with a high population of predators like Karongwe. Unfortunately this is her 3rd litter in a year, better luck next time Ketswiri.

Base Manager Karongwe.
