SUMMER IS HERE!!

It’s getting hotter by the day here at GVI Karongwe and the storms are building up. We have watched several amazing lightening displays from the veranda. The reserve will soon change from a dry savannah to a green paradise for wildlife. This is great for our collared Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) as on the 15th October we found her with 3 cubs. We are leaving her in peace for a while as she raises them in her den site, but hopefully soon we will see 3 ‘Honey Badger (Mellivora capensis) ’ lookalikes running about. Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) cubs resemble honey badgers (Mellivora capensis) as a form of defence, the black and white colouration on their backs alert the predator they are not to be messed with! Also excellent news with our Rhino (Cerathotherium simum) population – Cindy and small calf have also been found – all our Rhino (Cerathotherium simum) are counted for. Now we just have to keep them protected! We are working alongside management and lodges on the reserve by staff doing daily anti poaching patrols around the fence line. Keeping conservation top priority as always.
