An Epic Storm
In the early hours of Saturday morning the heavens opened over Karongwe Game Reserve. In the space of the next 15 hours approximately 140mm of rain fell. Dams and rivers have burst their banks and our regular volleyball arena has been washed away. Our current volunteers have had to get really stuck in, as our research drives continue we have got our vehicles stuck in the mud on more than a few occasions due to the rainfall washing many of the roads on the reserve away!
There are some plus points thou, with the river water level being so high we have been able to swim in some safe areas to escape from the midday heat. The reserve is also looking absolutely stunning, with vast lilly pad covered lakes and lush green grass which will benefit our herbivore population.
