Visit to Daktari Wildlife Orphanage
Yesterday we took our volunteers for a visit to Daktari Wildlife Orphanage.
Their mission is to provide inspiration and education to underprivileged children through the medium of an animal orphanage. They are a non profit, charitable organisation and rely on donations from visitors such as ourselves.
We were greeted by three young worthog piglets (Phacochoerus Aethiopicus). They were an absolute hit among the volunteers! The piglets are allowed to roam freely during the day but are kept in an enclosure at night in case of predation. Daktari is also home to many other animals in need including Donkeys, Ostriches, Eagles, Servals, Genets and many more.
Children from the local schools come to stay at Daktari for roughly a week at a time and are taught a syllabus of both nature related topics and maths/languages etc. We believe it is a really inspiring institution that provides a fantastic service to the local community and we hope to work more closely with Daktari in the future.
