Brown hyena mania!

We have finally been able to show our group brown hyena! And on top of that we have found at least 3 different brown hyena latrine sites on the reserve. Brown hyena (Hyaena brunnea) are very territorial and use latrine sites and anal pasting to mark their territories. They will defend their territories fiercely against intruders that is not part of their group.
The anal pastings consist of two parts a white and black part, the white is to warn of intruders and the black is for other members of the group, messages about food availability and when last the area was patrolled. The latrine sites is also a way marking their territories.
